Well, it’s time for the travel posts to commence! But for the sake of your time, I have created a shorter and longer version of this post. I also vlogged throughout my trip, so stay tuned for that! SHORT VERSION
If you peep at my InstaStories or my Instagram feed, you must have noticed that I visited a few countries in Central Europe. And today, I will be sharing about our first stop, Berlin. We arrived in Berlin early in the am, so we wandered through the city till night time. It gets dark around 9:30 pm, so if you visit during the summer you will enjoy of lots of daylight for sightseeing. We began by visiting one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Brandenburg Gate. We walked one block away to the Reichstag building, which houses the German parliament. There is a large glass dome at the very top of this building, which is where most of these pictures were taken. You need to make reservations to visit the dome, but its free and next-day slots are usually available (reservations are made in person in a nearby kiosk).
Then we visited Museum Island. This complex houses five of Berlin’s most internationally significant museums. We saw the legendary bust of Nefertiti, the breathtaking Ishtar Gate, and a fascinating collection of Islamic Art. After lunch, we headed to the longest existing fragment of the Berlin wall, known as the East Side Gallery, where you will find all the recognizable artwork. There are over 105 paintings by artists from all over the world and its close to 1 mile in length.
We also visited another part of the wall, which is where the former Gestapo (Secret State Police) headquarters was located during WWII. This site has two museums, one is indoors and built on the grounds of the old Gestapo building, and the other is outdoors.
We finished by walking about 3 blocks to Checkpoint Charlie. This post was the only crossing point along the Berlin Wall where foreigners and members of the Allied forces could cross between East and West Berlin, by foot or car.

Si echaron una mirada a mis Historias de Instagram o mi perfil en sí, deben haber notado que he visitado varios países de Europa Central. Y hoy, voy a compartir sobre nuestra primera parada, Berlín. Llegamos a Berlín temprano en la mañana, así que paseamos por la ciudad hasta la noche. Se oscurece alrededor de las 9:30 pm, así que si visita durante el verano podrá aprovechar la luz del día para hacer mucho turismo. Empezamos por visitar uno de los monumentos más emblemáticos de la ciudad, la Puerta de Brandenburgo. Caminamos una cuadra al edificio del Reichstag, que alberga el parlamento alemán. Hay una cúpula de vidrio en la parte superior de este edificio, que es donde la mayoría de estas fotos fueron tomadas. Necesitan hacer reservaciones para visitar la cúpula, pero es gratis y por general hay plena disponibilidad para el siguiente día (las reservaciones se hacen en persona en un quiosco cercano).
Luego visitamos la Isla de los Museos. Este complejo alberga cinco de los museos más importantes de Berlín. Vimos el legendario busto de Nefertiti, la impresionante Puerta Ishtar, y una fascinante colección de arte islámica. Después del almuerzo, nos dirigimos al fragmento más largo que existe del muro de Berlín, conocido como East Side Gallery, donde encontrará todas la obras de arte reconocibles. Hay más de 105 pinturas de artistas de todo el mundo y su longitud se acerca a 1 milla.
También visitamos otra parte del muro, que es donde la antigua sede de la Gestapo (Policía Secreta del Estado) estaba ubicada durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Este sitio cuenta con dos museos, uno en el interior y construido en los terrenos del antiguo edificio de la Gestapo, y el otro es al aire libre.
Terminamos caminando unas 3 cuadras hasta llegar a Checkpoint Charlie. Este puesto era el único punto de cruce a lo largo del Muro de Berlín donde extranjeros y miembros de las fuerzas aliadas podían cruzar entre Berlín Oriental y Oeste, a pie o en coche. [/one_half_last]

By the way, it gets dark around 9:30 pm, so if you visit during the summer you will enjoy of lots of daylight for sightseeing. We began by visiting one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Brandenburg Gate. During WWII, this monument suffered some damage (as most structures in Berlin) but it restored to its full glory after the war.
One block away is the Reichstag building, which houses the German parliament. A few years ago, the large glass dome at the very top of this building was completed, which is where most of these pictures were taken. You need to make reservations to visit the dome, but its free and next-day slots are usually available (reservations are made in person in a nearby kiosk).
Later we visited Museum Island, which is where an ensemble of five museums are located. We purchased a day ticket, which allowed us a one-time entrance to each museum throughout the day. This complex houses five of Berlin’s most internationally significant museums and was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. We saw the legendary bust of Nefertiti, the breathtaking Ishtar Gate, and a fascinating collection of Islamic Art.
After lunch, we headed to the longest existing fragment of the Berlin wall, most commonly known as the East Side Gallery. There is another part of the wall, that we also visited, near Checkpoint Charlie (I will explain what this is in a bit), but the East Side Gallery is where you will find all the recognizable artwork. There are over 105 paintings by artists from all over the world and its close to 1 mile in length.
As I mentioned before, we also visited another part of the wall, which is where the former Gestapo (Secret State Police) headquarters was located during WWII. There are two museums in this space, one is indoors and built on the grounds of its last occupants, which were responsible for enforcing the repression during the Nazi era; and one outdoors. This one displays the entire history that lead to World War II with authentic photos and heartfelt facts of that period.
A little bit about Checkpoint Charlie. This post became a known symbol of the Cold War, and represented the separation of East and West. It was the only crossing point along the Berlin Wall where foreigners and members of the Allied forces could cross between East and West Berlin, by foot or car.

Era el único punto de cruce a lo largo del muro donde los extranjeros y los miembros de las fuerzas aliadas podían cruzar entre el este y oeste de Berlín, a pie o en coche.
